As a corporate investigations firm in Cambodia, Lead Investigations specialises in many fields, one of which being the investigation into and confirmation of details submitted to insurance companies for various claims. There are several types of cases that we encounter, most common of which is an individual’s personal claim.
The claimants are usually part of one of two categories. The first being tourists. It is no surprise that these types of claims are rather scarce in Kingdom at the moment, largely due to the tourist visa (T-Visa) not being issued until the 19th of October 2021. These claimants usually insure their vacation by purchasing a temporary policy from an insurance company when they book their flights. The all inclusive coverage they purchase is relatively inexpensive and covers an array of potential claims.

The second category that claimants fall under is the expatriate. Although less common than the temporary coverage the average tourist uses, some expatriates cover themselves with long term travel insurance. Typically, these insurance packages range from 6-12 months validity. They are also generally easy to renew.
The nature of the above two types of claims typically involves the claimant either being a victim of crime (theft) or for medical expenses brought about from an accident.
Lead Investigations Cambodia’s role comes into play when the insurance companies, or more commonly fellow corporate risk management companies, utilises our services in order to verify all the details pertaining to the claim. This includes site visitation, confirming the events with the relevant authorities (Confirming police report details) as well as conducting interviews with the claimant and/or any other parties that may be involved (Medical entities; hotels etc.)
Other types of claims?
Filing a worker’s compensation claim due to an injury in the workplace can be a complicated process, both for the employee and employer. This is particularly true for international companies that are based outside of the Kingdom, which may find it difficult to independently verify claims. It is for this reason that many companies utilise private investigators in Cambodia, such as Lead Investigations, to carry out these verifications. Companies may expend notable resources to confirm that the employee’s injuries are serious enough to warrant the claim, especially if it results in preventing said employee from returning to work. An independent inquiry in to each case is warranted in order to rule out the possibility of workmanship fraud. This does not mean that every employee should fear making any claims due to injury, as minor or prompt recovery usually does not require any further investigation. It is important to note, however, that there are instances that an investigation may still be carried out even if the benefits or compensation from the company was denied. This is normally carried out to support the employer in the event of an appeal by the claimant.
